3COM probably abandoned this legacy product. You might try downloading and installing the latest driver (finding it on 3COMs support site was a disaster for me - but..):

In the end, however, it looks like 3COM (HP) has voted that adapter 'off the island'. You either find some kludge to make it work or get a better/newer device (easier for you considering it was already external.) I suggest something from a company that mainly makes networking components. I personally like Netgear equipment.
